Stock automations act as a 24/7 inventory watchman, reacting to stock level changes so you don’t have to manually monitor your warehouse levels. Whether you’re hiding sold-out items or tagging low-stock favorites, these rules handle the heavy lifting while you focus on growing your business.

What is a Stock Automation?

A stock automation is a background rule that monitors your inventory levels in real-time. When a product’s stock hits a specific threshold, the app automatically applies changes you’ve defined, such as hiding the product or adding a tag. Crucially, these rules can also automatically reverse those changes once the item is restocked.

How It Works

Setting up an automation follows a simple logic flow:

1. Select Products: Use filters to target specific collections, vendors, or tags.
2. Set a Threshold: Define the inventory number that triggers the rule (e.g., “0” for out of stock or “5” for low stock).
3. Out-of-Stock Action: Choose what happens when the product hits the threshold (e.g., set status to Draft or add a “sold-out” tag).
4. Back-in-Stock Action: Define how to reverse the changes once stock is replenished (e.g., set status back to Active).
5. Notifications: Optionally enable email alerts to be notified every time a rule triggers.

Real-World Examples

• Auto-Hide Sold Out Items: Set a threshold of 0 to change product status to Draft when empty, and back to Active when refilled.
• Low-Stock Badges: Set a threshold of 5 to add a “low-stock” tag, which can trigger a “Only a few left!” badge on your storefront.
• Reorder Alerts: Create a rule for “best-seller” tags with a threshold of 0 and only enable email notifications to get an instant alert for reordering.

Managing Your Rules

You can manage all active and paused rules under Automations > Stock Automations.

• Toggle On/Off: Pause rules temporarily without deleting them.
• View History: Check the logs to see exactly which products were affected and what changes were made.
• Edit or Delete: Update thresholds, filters, or actions as your inventory strategy evolves.
